Hakata Ramen Shinsengumi
July 17th, 2005
We arrived at 8:00 P.M. and there were a dozen more people waiting for being seated. We waited for 30 minutes and finally got in. When I open the menu, hmm-huh? … ???????????? … ????? … -.-/// Alright, there are fine print English comments on the side, but how should I order? Well, I just tried. Basically they have only one type of ramen, that’s “Hakata”, which means using pork broth and miso to make the soup, and served with noodles, green onions, and gingers. You can choose to put in other ingredients in your ramen, like chashu (sliced pork stew), bamboo shoots, egg, bean sprouts, … etc. We wanted to order the special fried pork chop but it’s sold out, so we ordered egg roll instead. The soup of the ramen is awesome! I was so touched and I ordered another serve of noodles so that I could enjoy the soup more. The egg roll was made by cabbage and chicken, and it was very big compared to the small one in Chinese restaurants. Our dinner cost us 24 bucks and made us feel very satisfied.
Shinsengumi has opened another ramen place in Rosemead, it’s located on the intersection of Valley and Rosemead. If you live nearby Monterey Park, you’ve got to try that one.
